From the moment one enters the newly opened Holly Court Inn in Washington, GA (located between Athens and Augusta), one is impressed with the historical significance and amazing restoration of the property. Owners and resident innkeepers, Phil and Maggie Rothman, welcome their guests with warm Southern hospitality and efforts to please.

Holly Court Inn is beautifully furnished, the bedding is luxurious, and a wide array of amenities is provided. Each morning, a gourmet breakfast is served in the formal dining room; it is as bountiful as it is beautiful in its presentation. After the morning mini-feast, a stroll around the well-groomed grounds is a nice way to round out the morning.

Washington is a charming town steeped in history, and there is not better place to stay in the area than Holly Court Inn.

Our stay at the Holly Court Inn was like revisiting an era back in time. The decor and ambiance of both the Inn and the grounds was as if the experience had plucked us out of our reality so we could be rejuvenated by a season in time where life was embraced much more serenely. Our stay was our most enjoyable bed and breakfast, by far, that we've experienced and we plan on making it a regular get away. The Inn Keepers are fabulous in showering one both with hospitality and gourmet meals. Our daily breakfasts were beyond our imagination. The ultimate experience for us was our reserved privately served gourmet dinner in the Parlor our final evening there. By the fireplace with candlelight, .we were lavished with a gourmet presentation with our delicious meal and the service was top of the line! We're already planning our next trip away, this time we're bringing dear friends along to join us!

On first impressions, you would imagine a Yankee from the Bronx to be an unlikely candidate as innkeeper of an antebellum mansion in the deepest reaches of the Deep South. Phil, the Innkeeper of the Holly Court Inn in Washington, Georgia was an outstanding host during our recent, all-too-brief stop-over. He has both a real passion for his classic home and a knack for making his guests feel welcome.

From the glass of wine were offered on our arrival to the outstanding breakfast before our departure every detail was perfect. We were rudely interrupted during the evening by a tornado warning (complete with sirens), when Phil and his delightful wife invited us to the safety of their “office basement” to share another glass (or two!).

Washington is an enchanting city and - if you plan a visit - we recommend the Holly Court unreservedly.

Less than an hours' drive from The Masters in Augusta, this recently renovated, antebellum mansion is managed by a wonderfully friendly and accommodating owner, Phil and his wife. The 2nd floor king-bedded room with balcony is deluxe. Excellent, quality linens and mattress. The newly completed bath has a Jacuzzi and separate shower. The Public rooms are authentic to the period. This is easily a 'destination' inn for the romantic, the nostalgic, or anyone else who appreciates comfort and southern hospitality. Don't forget to ask Phil for the honey nut breakfast cake....delicious! Online photos at the website are accurate representations of the rooms, too!

Guest Comment - April 2008

Through my travels in the Marines and my personal adventures I have experienced various resorts, B&B's, and Inns. Though there were some that were impressive to say the least, Holly Court Inn has - without a doubt - been the most enjoyable.

When I first called Holly Court I was met with only kindness and accommodation. Despite the problems and the demands a military career can impose for planning a vacation, I was able to workout several events in my weekend that would not have been possible without the kind and caring nature of the owners of Holly Court Inn.

Our mornings were accented by excellent breakfasts made all the more enjoyable by the eloquent antique furnishings through out the Inn. Not only did Holly Court Inn exceed my expectations with breakfast and accommodations, but also a romantic dinner one evening at the Inn with my significant other was beyond compare. If this review does inspire anyone to stay there I highly recommend the romantic dinner in the midst of the antique furniture over a glass of champagne, it is an experience I think I may never match.

The town in which Holly Court is located has a historical nature to it which I had not had the time to explore, but waking up to friendly neighbors and the calm singing of birds will be sorely missed and made up for my lack of more free time.

The beds are sumptuous in all aspects, making you want to fall asleep immediately upon lying down and the rooms are all very carefully decorated. Fireplaces add a home-sweet-home feeling to each room and, again, the owners are willing to go to great lengths to make sure that your vacation is exactly what you want. As always, customer service is the most important area of business and it is my opinion that Phil and Maggie have taken that to heart.

Thank you Phil and Maggie (extended thanks to your son) for making my vacation all that I had hoped it would be!

Sincerely,

Ross
